Refund & Cancellation Policy

Effective: [EFFECTIVE DATE] · Last updated: [LAST UPDATED DATE] · Version [VERSION]

Paid plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Fees are generally non-refundable and we do not prorate unused time, except where the law of your country or province gives you a refund right, or where we choose to make an exception. This summary is for convenience and does not replace the full text below.

1. Scope

This Refund & Cancellation Policy explains how billing, cancellation, and refunds work for paid subscriptions to Inovamail (the "Service"). It forms part of, and is incorporated by reference into, our Terms of Service. Capitalised terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms of Service. If there is any conflict, the Terms of Service govern, except that mandatory rights under applicable consumer-protection law always prevail.

This Policy applies to paid plans (for example, our paid tiers billed monthly or yearly). The free tier is provided at no charge; because no fee is paid for it, there is nothing to refund or cancel for billing purposes, although you may close your account at any time.

The plan, price, features, and limits that apply to you are those shown on our pricing page and at checkout at the time you subscribe or renew, which control. This Policy does not itself set prices.

2. Billing cycles and automatic renewal

Paid plans are offered on recurring billing cycles — typically monthly or yearly, as selected at checkout. Your subscription begins when your payment is first accepted and continues for the billing period you selected.

Automatic renewal. Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period, your subscription renews automatically for a further period of the same length, and you authorise us and our payment processors to charge your payment method on file the then-current fee for that plan, plus applicable taxes, at each renewal. This continues until you cancel or the subscription is otherwise terminated.

  • Authorisation to charge. By subscribing, you authorise recurring charges to your chosen payment method for each renewal until you cancel. You are responsible for keeping your payment details current.
  • Renewal-price notice. The renewal fee is the price then in effect for your plan. If the renewal price will differ from what you last paid, we will give you notice in advance as required by applicable law, and, where required, obtain your consent, before the change takes effect. See section 9.
  • Renewal timing. Renewal charges are made on or around the renewal date. Yearly plans renew once per year; monthly plans renew each month.

3. How to cancel

You can cancel a paid plan at any time. Cancellation is self-serve: you can turn off renewal or cancel from your account billing settings in the Service. You may also contact us at [SUPPORT EMAIL] for help.

  • Effect of cancelling. Cancellation stops future renewals. It takes effect at the end of your current paid period — it does not end your subscription immediately or trigger a refund of the current period.
  • Access until period end. You keep access to your paid plan until the end of the period you have already paid for. After that, your subscription will not renew and your account will move to the free tier or lose paid features, subject to any applicable plan limits.
  • Cancel before renewal. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel before your renewal date. A cancellation made after a renewal charge applies to the following period.

Data and downgrades. When a plan ends or is downgraded, features and quotas that exceed the free tier or your new plan (for example, storage, addresses, aliases, custom domains, or workflow triggers) may become unavailable, and content over the new limits may be restricted or, after any applicable grace period, removed in accordance with the Terms of Service. Because of Inovamail's zero-knowledge, end-to-end-encrypted design, we cannot recover content once it is deleted, and we may be unable to recover data that depends on keys only you control. Export or back up anything you need before cancelling or downgrading.

4. General refund rule

Except where required by applicable law or expressly stated in this Policy or in a separate written agreement with us:

  • all fees are non-refundable, and payments are charged in advance for the applicable billing period;
  • we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods, for unused time, for periods during which you did not use the Service, or for time remaining after you cancel;
  • we do not provide prorated refunds when you downgrade from a higher-priced plan to a lower-priced one; a downgrade takes effect at the next billing cycle unless we state otherwise; and
  • discounts, promotional pricing, and credits have no cash value and are non-refundable and non-transferable except as expressly stated.

Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable right you may have under the consumer-protection or distance-selling laws of your country or province — see section 5.

5. Statutory exceptions and consumer rights

Some laws give consumers refund or cancellation rights that cannot be waived. This Policy does not limit those rights, and where they apply they prevail over the general rule in section 4.

5.1 EU / UK right of withdrawal (consumers)

If you are a consumer in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with equivalent distance-selling rules, you generally have the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days of entering into it, without giving a reason.

Express consent to immediate performance and loss of the withdrawal right. Inovamail is supplied as digital content and a digital service that begins immediately. By subscribing and asking us to start the Service before the 14-day period ends, you expressly request that performance begin immediately and you acknowledge that you will lose your right of withdrawal once the Service has been fully performed, and, for ongoing service, that you may be required to pay for what you have used up to the point you withdraw. If you have not started using the paid features and are within the withdrawal period, you may still be entitled to withdraw and receive a refund in accordance with applicable law.

5.2 Canadian consumer-protection rights

If you are a consumer in Canada, your rights under applicable federal law and under the consumer-protection legislation of your province or territory — including, where applicable, the law of [PROVINCE] and, for consumers in Quebec, the Consumer Protection Act — are unaffected by this Policy and continue to apply. Where such law grants a cancellation or refund right (for example, for certain remote or automatically renewing contracts), we will honour it.

5.3 Other jurisdictions

Where the mandatory law of your jurisdiction provides a refund, cooling-off, or cancellation right that cannot be excluded, that right applies notwithstanding anything else in this Policy.

6. Discretionary refunds

Beyond what the law requires, we may choose to offer a refund, credit, or other accommodation on a case-by-case basis, at our sole discretion. Any such refund is a one-time courtesy for the specific circumstance, does not create an obligation to provide the same or similar refund in the future, and is not an admission of liability or a waiver of this Policy. We may condition a discretionary refund (for example, on cancellation of the plan or removal of promotional pricing).

7. Duplicate or erroneous charges and failed payments

7.1 Duplicate or erroneous charges

If you believe you were charged in error — for example, a duplicate charge or a charge for a plan you did not order — contact us at [SUPPORT EMAIL] promptly, and in any event within a reasonable time and no later than any period required by applicable law. If we confirm a billing error, we will refund or credit the incorrectly charged amount.

7.2 Failed payments, suspension, and downgrade

If a renewal or other charge fails, we may retry the charge, and we may notify you to update your payment method. If payment remains unsuccessful, we may suspend, downgrade, restrict, or terminate your paid features or account after any notice required by applicable law, without liability to you. Amounts already due remain payable, and we may use payment processors and, where permitted, collection measures to recover unpaid amounts. Reinstating a suspended plan may require you to bring your account current.

8. Taxes

Prices may be shown exclusive or inclusive of taxes as indicated at checkout. You are responsible for any sales, use, value-added (VAT/GST/HST), or similar taxes and duties associated with your subscription, other than taxes on our income. Where we refund a fee, any associated tax will be handled in accordance with applicable law; some taxes and government charges may be non-refundable to us and therefore cannot be refunded to you. Refunds are made in the original currency and payment method where reasonably possible.

9. Price changes

We may change our prices, plans, features, and limits from time to time. Changes do not affect the period you have already paid for; they take effect at your next billing cycle after the change. Where a change increases the price you pay on renewal, we will give you advance notice as required by applicable law and, where required, obtain your consent before the new price applies. If you do not accept a price change, you may cancel before it takes effect, in which case your subscription will not renew at the new price and access will continue until the end of your current paid period. Your continued use or renewal after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

10. Chargebacks

Please contact us before starting a chargeback. If you have a billing concern, contact [SUPPORT EMAIL] first — most issues can be resolved quickly and directly.

Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute without first allowing us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the matter can result in your account being suspended or terminated while the dispute is investigated. We reserve the right to contest chargebacks we believe are unwarranted and to submit records of your use of the Service, this Policy, and the Terms of Service as evidence. Fraudulent, abusive, or bad-faith chargebacks — for example, disputing charges for a service you used — may lead to suspension or termination of your account and recovery of amounts owed, and do not relieve you of amounts properly due. This section does not affect any legitimate chargeback right you have under applicable law or your card network's rules.

11. How to request a refund and contact us
